Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in the United America. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for health reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a path for undocumented immigrants to become citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
